Gordon says...

oh wow...have i been gone that long? what happened to karen!?

Karen says...

hahahahahaahahahah. i think i just let out a whimper from my cubicle trying not to burst out laughing. i'm currently at my lab's library with a whole room of ppl working silently away and sticking my head further into the cubicle so that no one will hear me NOT laugh. hahaha. just taking another internet break from 'thinking' about my project and reading literature. =P okay, back to 'work'.

PS: viv, you wanted an example of 'stud muffin' in a sentence. *clears throat*

you stud muffin you. *wink* (imagine karen's over-exaggerated "pulse" wink...)

hahahahahahahaha. i'm on this sugar high from my grande starbucks mocha. *ahem* excuse me. okay, i'm fine now.

Unknown says...

Stud... Muffins...

Is this an ongoing condition of the softer side of Karen....

vivienne says...

Gary: HAHAHAHAHA that is brilliant!!! Too bad it's ironic that you're VOLUNTARILY doing so much more school than is required of you.

Karen: STUD MUFFIN! ahhaahahah...I didn't even think of that. Hmmm....how would one use that in a sentence and not sound gay? XD XD XD

Karen says...

we'll miss you garyyyyyyy!!! have a safe and happy summer. email/blog to keep us posted on your european adventures. =) PS: i see a trend in rhyming poems from you... *wink*

re: joyce's sidebar comment on muffins
to reiterate cindy's earlier post (i didn't know what she was referring to before haha), what other kinda muffins ARE there other than pastry kinds? STUD muffins? hahahahahaa. ohhh, that's SOOOOO bad. even for me. *lol*.

Gary says...

Hey dudes and dudettes,

Counting down the hours till my flight......

Thanks for all who came on Saturday (and thanx Ben for hosting it) and I'm sorry I couldn't make it to the grad pics. Hope you guys had fun though!

But yeah, I would like to wish everyone a great summer and if you want, you can e-mail me your address and I will send you guys a postcard from Europe. :D

On an unrelated note, I was cleaning my room and I found an English assignment that I had written back in Grade 10:

Poem on school

School is so cheap,
It makes me want to weep.
I want to stay home and sleep,
'Cuz bullies there kick your "beep".

Homework comes in a great quantity,
I hate them with profanity.
Oh God, pray have some humanity,
Don't let school drive me to insanity!

I don't wanna go to school,
It's stupid, it isn't cool,
All you do there is sit and drool,
If you go you're a fool!

Wow. I couldn't believe I knew about the word "profanity" back in Grade 10.

Anyways, have a great one guys and I'll try my hardest to update you guys on my time in Germany.

Auf wiedersehen!

GARY: Hope you have a safe flight tomorrow!!!!

(BTW, the congratulatory post on the side bar ---> you're congratulating Gary a year too early. ;))

Karen says...

- to friends -
viv/cindy/leo: hehe honoured that you guys came out today. thanks a bunches *hugs*. esp. cindy who even came to the reception with us!
those who couldn't make it: wish you could've been there. =)

vivienne says...

CONGRATS, GRADS!!! Well, I'll be seeing you guys tomorrow anyway, I'll leave the gushing and hugging till then.

Joyce: Well, you're small....you can probably fit nicely into a nice duffel bag, and we'll just carry you out. How's that? :)

And...just something funny that Joanne told me just now...her dad saw her talking to me on MSN...and promptly asked "Who's the lesbians in the pic?" Hahaha...for those of you who haven't seen my MSN pic yet, if I'm online, take a look. Wow...I think it's the first time I've ever been mistaken for one...and probably the last time too...until the next time I'm drunk/hyper/or both...

Joyce says...

yay!!! *clap* Happy graduation to survivors of ubc science! cheers to the zinc fingers!!!

AHHHHH. can someone fabricate a plan to kidnap me from school?

Gordon says...

All right boys and girls of the class of 2006, just wanted to congratulate all you graduates for your achievement and wish you all the best in whatever path you choose to take next year.

K, now that sounds like some kinda dean speech.

Anyhow, enjoy one of the most boring yet exciting days of your life! KICK SOME REAL WORLD ASS!

Karen says...

ohhhhh!! engagement rings!! =) =) =) me likes your birk's choices and the 3rd 'this'. hehehehe. i think staring at sparkly things just make ppl happier. (i'm graduating tomorrow with a biochem degree and i don't care how dumb that last comment sounded. =P)

also: p&c camping, we're still trying to work out scheduling conflicts, and are trying to figure out the best days/dates so that everybody can come. =P i'll update you guys, hopefully, soon.

PS: pat, there are more grad profiles to be put up ma?

Joyce says...

*joyce drools*

*turns back to immunology notes*

*grunts*

*sobs *

NeverGonnaGrowUp says...

joyce: what kind of non-pastry kind of muffins are there? i hope im not digging myself a hole...

btw, re: the tiffany website i found 1 ring i might like: schlumberger engagement ring. i still dont like pave's tho.

i like 3 stone rings too, esp 3 rounds, 1 round 2 pear shaped, or 1 oval 2 tap bagettes.

i still like the birk's amorique or NESW the best to be honest. with plain wedding bands. i'll reserve more diamonds for my right hand, such as this, this, or this (i know, i don't really like gypsy sets either but they're at least more secure than pave's). Oh and I like most pearl rings, like this! or this!

special shoutout to papie: don't worry, i'll give you the same (and more) bookmarks again as the date get closer in a couple of years. first let's survive the going broke thanks-to-med-school phase...

Karen says...

the biochem kids of 2006 are/were: myself, pat, ben, gary, christina. gary's not gradding til next year though.

NeverGonnaGrowUp says...

karen: i'm fine with not doing a bbq either way. lol. judging from the lack of response on the blog, i guess we'll decide on the day of, after the ceremony?

p.s. who is graduating on the 26th?

Tuesday, May 23, 2006

Gordon says...

Yay to diet coke and sugar free fudgesicles!

Karen says...

hear, hear!! i have tried for years to convince my parents and pretty much all relatives (all at risk for diabetes) that the worst thing about aspartame is the way it tastes!! and with a lotta these studies, it's based on continually feeding mice these compounds at insane magnitudes of their own weight proportions anyway.

Monday, May 22, 2006

Christopher says...

Gonna get messages out of the way before ranting:

New Graduates: Congratulations!! You have survived a horrendous year of much suffering. Wish I could be there for your graduation!

Vivienne: Congrats on getting into education! Why on earth would you want to subject yourself to more lab work though?

Joyce: I think you are referring to something that Li Kai posted a while back? I don't think it was mine.

Ranting:
I was browsing and I came up upon this:

The Truth About Aspartame
Nutrition & Diet in The Soko
http://www.thesoko.com/thesoko/article922.html

Now normally I like The Soko, its a pretty fun site with some minor insights, but this really drives me nuts.

But just what kinds of health problems does aspartame cause? Although the ‘official’ word on aspartame is that it has no negative effects, independent testing around the world has concluded what the FDA knew in 1965: it does has negative effects.

There can be immediate effects such as headaches or dizziness, or there can be more serious long-term effects such as seizures or cancer. Although the list of symptoms is very long, they are difficult to connect to aspartame. This explains why aspartame has persisted in our foods for so long; ill-effects are hard to prove.

Now I'm confused, despite the 'official' word of researchers across the world, a few so called 'independant studies' are enough to informly decide that the FDA and the world's researchers have all been bought off? The fact remains the majority of those 'independant studies' are paid for by the sugar industry, to fight for market share and to cover up the harsh truth that sugar kills (especially fructose syrup). I'm not going to pretend that the sugar substitute industry isnt subsidizing its own trials, but to assume that everyone doing research has been bought off is sort of crazy.

So lets take a look at a few review articles:

Ann Oncol. 2004 Oct;15(10):1460-5.
Artificial sweeteners--do they bear a carcinogenic risk?
http://annonc.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/content/full/15/10/1460

However, according to the current literature, the possible risk of artificial sweeteners to induce cancer seems to be negligible.

Regul Toxicol Pharmacol. 2002 Apr;35(2 Pt 2):S1-93.
Aspartame: review of safety.
(*note: This one has ties to the sugar substitute industry)

When all the research on aspartame, including evaluations in both the premarketing and postmarketing periods, is examined as a whole, it is clear that aspartame is safe, and there are no unresolved questions regarding its safety under conditions of intended use.

The sooner we start laying these falsehoods to rest, the sooner we can start dealing with the obesity and diabetes epidemics that are sweeping across the Canada.

Karen says...

cindy: aww that's really sweet that you'd do that for us. but i'm thinking maybe a bbq would be too much work? for that reason alone, i would think that just getting together and having lunch or something would be good. what do other ppl think?

Leaky Wang!!!! says...

Whoa Joyce, I found another version of that a while back ago....except it was a man complaining about his wife, etc. Hehe...these just don't get old

Joyce says...

Dear Tech Support:
Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slowdown in the overall performance,
particularly in the flower and jewelry applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0. In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, and then installed undesirable
programs such as NFL 5.0, NHL 4.3, MLB 3.0, NBA 3.6, XBOX Live and NASCAR
4.0. Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and Housecleaning 2.6 simply crashes
the system. I've tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix
these problems, to no avail. What can I do?
Signed,
Desperate
-------
Dear Desperate:
First, keep in mind that Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package while Husband 1.0 is an Operating System. Try to enter the
command:
C:/ITHOUGHTYOULOVEDME" to download Tears 6.2, which should automatically install Guilt 3.0. If that application works as designed, Husband 1.0 should
then automatically run the applications Jewelry 2.0 and Flowers 3.5. Remember, though, that overuse of the above application can cause Husband
1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour
7.0, or Beer 6.1. Beer 6.1 is a very bad program that will create Snoring Loudly 10.8.
Whatever you do: DO NOT install Mother-in-law 1.0 or reinstall another Boyfriend program. These are not supported
applications and will crash Husband 1.0. In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great
program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications
quickly. You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and
performance. I personally recommend Hot Food 3.0 and Lingerie 7.7.

Good Luck,
Tech Support

NeverGonnaGrowUp says...

uncle ben: excellent! when and how shall i grab them from u? thanks soooo much!

viv: post-grad celebration eh? given that post-grad picture taking frenzy usually ensues, it's a little difficult to predict when everyone will be done. taking those into consideration...

1. we can go somewhere to eat on campus, like a bar or bubble tea place, as a symbolic goodbye to undergrad. easy, simple, and potentially can be cheap.

2. we can hold a bbq at my place. realistically bbqing on my tiny grill will take forever and a half, so we can pre-cook some stuff in the oven. when all the hungry grad-ers come it'll be all ready. we can take a dip in the pool too but no waterfights inside my house! this idea will take some planning and i'll need lots of help the day before (thursday).

so? what does everyone think?

Unknown says...

cindy, I have extra tix... I ordered 3, but my sister isnt coming...

Friday, May 19, 2006

vivienne says...

I wouldn't mind planning something, actually. I'll have to confirm with Solveig first that she doesn't actually have any duties for me to do first (ie manual labor in filling the pipet boxes or autoclaving). Cindy wanna help me out? LOL something of a post-grad celebration?

NeverGonnaGrowUp says...

I'd like to go see the biochem grads walk across the stage for their <10seconds of fame, except no one has been able to provide me with tickets yet.

I'd be up for something before (or after) the ceremony as well, given that I happen to have that day off. I should really spend that time packing though but I am sure I can spare some time for your lovely people's company :) Would you like to organize something for us, Viv?

p.s. Oooooooh congratulations Viv!! Another cause to celebrate!

Karen says...

congrats viv! =) *thumbs up* but did we ever have any doubts? *wink*

oh! my uncle just bought us these yummy candies called 'COQ10'. they claim to have coenzyme q10 in them; it's even listed in the ingredients. hahaa.

as for graduation (in a week!!): i'd like to extend an official invitation to all P&C members to come take pictures with us post-ceremony and commemorate 'p&c biochem graduation take 2' =). it's on friday, the 26th, at 11am. so assuming the ceremony's about 1.5 hours (correct me if i'm wrong past biochem grads), if you guys get there @ 12:30, it should be fine.

cindy, i couldn't get the ticket for you. so sorry. they're all sold out!! but please do come and take pictures with us. =)

vivienne says...

Cindy: hehe...you're not out of the loop. Lab jobs aren't that cool, anyway, seeing how almost everyone in the group has one. I'm just catching up. LOL...anyway, I WILL tell you that I am accepted into Faculty of Education. Got the letter pretty early too. They must like me. *smirk*

Joanne: I really doubt that you're getting any wrinkles. hehe...good to see that you're taking precautions, though. Don't forget coenzyme Q10! Hehe...it works wonders for tired eyes.

To the rest of the non-gradding people currently in Vancouver: are you guys going to see the biochem grads? up for a lunch thing beforehand? I don't think I have work that day 'cause Solveig (the Master student I'm shadowing) will be gone, and it would be cool to do something together. Any plans?

NeverGonnaGrowUp says...

Viv - a lab job in ubc?! I'm feeling outta the loop and I just saw you a couple weeks ago...lol...

Joanne says...

Thanks Karen :). Yah, I did my annual wake-up-early-and-check-for-wrinkles routine, and have concluded that my first wrinkle will appear at the corner of my left eyebrow between my eyes. I have been religously applying vitamin E to that spot ever since. I've considered buying new, more supportive bras to prevent premature sagging...but I have been too lazy to go shopping. On the other hand, Botox procedures are becoming cheaper and no longer require anesthesia...which is interesting to know...

Oh Vivienne, I cook meals with fresh vegetables and meat and my parents are STILL horrified at the way I live. Nothing you do will ever live up to the standards you have at home, but I agree with Karen that it IS a lot harder to starve than you think, hehe.

Yah, I don't like Toronto either and I've been living here for 3/4 of a year now. The only thing that's better is the shopping. Per dollar-wise, the restaurants here suck. The scenery is non-existant. Everything is FLAT. All the professors here need to take a stick out of their ass. Gordon was not exagerrating: I actually saw "smog" as a weather condition on the forecast once. And yes, how dare that taxi driver compare Lake Ontario to the ocean!

Thursday, May 18, 2006

Gordon says...

Haha...the pollution was definitely not bad YET. Wait till the summer when all you see in your kleenex is black boogers and "too much pollution" is actually a weather condition. Toronto is an ugly city! It's old, and not with unique looking buildings but old, run-down looking buildings. They might have nice looking buildings here and there...but they are always surrounded by buildings that look like they will fall over any minute. Ontario lake is a sad excuse for what they call water. Everyone is high-strung and everyone is always on the run. The only part I thought was nice was the big billboards I saw walking down Yonge street towards Eaton Centre, and even that was just "okay la."

Niagara falls is definitely amazing though, no question.

Karen says...

i'm baa-aack... =)

first things first - b.r.o. duties!: happy 22nd and 4 days birthday to joanne! internet access was not on hand this past week. my apologies. =)

i love defending things that ppl bash -- i LOVE toronto! seriously, despite the pollution (it's not THAT bad, guys! heck, a TON of ppl live happily in hk!), the humidity, some dirtier parts of downtown, the long commutes, the city's awesome! it's so huge!! all the food, the shopping, the sea of people and cars, the 10+ highway lanes, things don't all close @ 11! reminds me a ton of hk. scarborough especially. hehe. the east coast was so much fun. ottawa was okay la. montreal was so-so. quebec city was surprisingly impressive. cn tower was a rip off and the niagara falls was absolutely beautiful! the only thing i really missed about vancouver was my vancouver hair!! omg, have you guys seen that friends episode with monica's hair in humid weather? =P well, i saw a bit of that this past week. hahahaha.

viv, welcome to the glamourous lab life. =) where are you working again, on campus right? moving out!! so exciting!! as a fellow overprotected, spoiled rotten kid, i'll cheer you on. i don't think starving to death is actually as easy as pat thinks. =P hahahaha.

ben and other grads: are you guys going to the reception? i rsvp'd yes. let's go la!! we can always leave early.

and finally, my comp is currently out of commish and thus my msn/email access is sadly reduced to my sister's off times. *sigh*. it will be emails galore for the next little while. =P

Happy Summer Everyone!

Just a posting to let everyone know about a Eurotrip, in case any of you r interested.

Target dates are ~2 weeks end of August, with a budget ~3K.

Hitting France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, and hopping Luxemberg/Holland/Belgium

Let me know ASAP!

Wednesday, May 17, 2006

vivienne says...

Thanks for the sentiments, Pat. :P Even though...I have to agree with you that you're totally right on all those points. I probably will starve to death. Or not take care of myself when I'm sick, so that I'll die in my room and no one will find my body until it decomposes and starts to rot.

Haha . . . and just today, at 9:46 precisely, I managed to break the tip off of a P20 micropipette. >.<; I was like !#@%^^!^#@!!!!! the prof will NOT be happy to hear about this when he comes back from his trip. I hope it's not too expensive to fix.(He'll probably regret taking me in now...hahahah) Anyhow...first breakage of my summer lab job! Hopefully, the first AND the last.

Gordon says...

Viv: on campus, for a single bedroom, it'll cost probably somewhere between 900-1000. But probably closer to the latter or even more so. Off campus, it's probably a little bit less, unless you live in a house with 8 other roommates, where it'll be MUCH cheaper. But yeah, start stocking up on canned foods. YUMMY!

The weather has actually been all right in TO. Not too hot. In fact, it was only about 16 degrees yesterday, with RAIN. So for some reason, there was an east to west shift in weather. It's going to even rain ALL week next week. But I guess I shouldn't complain since it'll probably be over 30 degrees within the next month or so....

Back to reading endless papers that may mean nothing to my project!

Pat says...

Omg.. VIV moving out?!?!

You are going to starve to death. Or frequently visit your mom in NW. heh heh.

vivienne says...

Hey, is it hot in Toronto? It was like...28 degrees in Van yesterday. It was SO GROSS!!!! I swear I could see lines of sweat running down my arm....

Anyway...I can finally see what the COOP/Lab people meant about how fun it is to work in a lab...I LOVE PIPETTING...Ahahahahah....yay for genetics labs!

For those of you who rented places on or near campus...I'm thinking of moving out for next year. Any good idea of the ranges of rent, utilities, etc?

Gordon says...

I hated Toronto...but after living here for only 3 days, I pretty much despise this place.

Yay to the "#1" city of Canada!

fine.. ill try resucitating it. ...

so.. i went to the bay today to pick up some face masks.. (no not for myself).. and man.. do women really buy into all these gimicky slogans and promises?

and how is it that I'm in biochem and I have absolutely no idea what:

'complex of vectorized vitamin C kiwi water and enzyme control complex is???' add in the fact that they actually use the word 'magical mask made of ultra-soft woven cotton' and I am absolutely shocked something like this can sell in the upper double digits.. this is like: 13.50 a mask!!

Are you guys going to the grad reception with the four original 1956 graduates of biochem? I'm thinking of going... but only if other peeps are going haha...

Joyce says...

well, from the last time i went to a Invisalign convention/seminar as a dental assitant, I was told that one of invisalign's limitation is shifting midline that's off by more than 2 mm.... and his is definitely more than 2mm

Thursday, May 11, 2006

vivienne says...

Joyce: HAHAHAHAH..I liked the Tom Cruise one. Actually, he did have those Invisalign braces a while back, maybe it was to correct this problem?

Wednesday, May 10, 2006

Joyce says...

Inspired by papa Ng during a conversation, here I want to share some funny things happened in my classes.

First time using mirror to do upper tooth
That day, I was suppose to drill a 1st upper premolar, and it was my first time drilling with a mirror.
The thing with mirror is that, u think you are moving to left, but you move the other way instead.
O.k. here I went with a initial entry, not too bad. When I wanted to drill towards the centre of the tooth, ZOOMMMPPH... I drilled across the canine instead.
oh well.
at least it's not on a real person.
and the tooth are fake anyway, i can always change them.

Now I know why people don't like dentists
When discussing on difficulty in putting rubber dam clamp on erupting molar on kids, this is the cute Dr. Charlie (actually his name's Larson, but that's how we call him) said,
mind you, the clamp is REALLY tight and made of steel.
"yeah, it's sometimes impossible to clamp, but, you know, the kid will be numb and you can just clamp it on the gingiva."
And the class went "ouch!!"

someone i see from time to time
He calls me sunshine and fixes me breakfast:
eggs well done and bacon not too crispy,
on a bun with butter, salt, pepper and katchup.
coffee with just milk and no sugar.
I usually see him the morning when I have exams.
yeah.. he's the breakfast guy in those breakfast cart outside of the building.
Funny thing was, he and his partner always know when we have tests and what we're being tested on.

MI:4 or is it 3?? the latest one...
We went as a group of people to a nearby theatre. This is me to two friends,
Joyce: pay attention to tom cruise's teeth, the midline's off by one incisor's width.
when comming out of the movie, the friend who was informed of this went,
"joyce, you totally ruined the movie for me, all I did was looking at his teeth and try to figure out what was wrong."
and, better yet, other people were like,
"do you see tom cruise's teeth. it's awful!"
"i know! that's all i can pay attention to when he's not doing stunts."

ai... sad sad little life we lead, eh

vivienne says...

Pat: :P :P :P

Joanne's Birthday Plan

Hehe, planning my own birthday party - that's the way to go...I get ALLL the control, muahaha. So the details:

When: Sunday May 14th, 2006 at 6:00pm (sorry for the early dinner time but I have a curfew to make now)

Where: Niagara Street Cafe, 169 Niagara St, 416-703-4222

How [to get there]: TTC down to St. Andrews Station (King), and take the streetcar west just past Bathurst. Get off and head south to Niagara St. Mapquest it if need be.

What: A neighbourhood European bistro with an emphasis on local and organic ingredients.

$$$: ~$7 appetizers, $14-$19 mains, ~$4 sides (offered separately), ~$5 desserts

Who: Betty (Lawrence Lo's gf), Christopher (P&C's Pop), +/- Derek (my gay boyfriend), Diana (lab mate and Gordon's subletter), Eddie (my straight boyfriend), Eric (Gordon's gay boyfriend), Gordon (Tim, Vivienne, and Leo's adopted brother...right?), +/- Julie (lab mate from Vancouver), +/- Lawrence Lo (whom everyone seems to know for some reason...), and nobody from the last half of the alphabet.

Why: To make myself feel better about getting old and to assure me that I'm not getting any new wrinkles. I don't care if I really do have new wrinkles, you'll have to lie, dammit!

Christopher says...

Karen:

Thats great that you are willing to take charge. Unfortunately, none of the cabins/yurts/platform tents in the US camping system are available during a weekend. Infact, I think those platform tents are the only shelters available for more than 2 days in a row at any time during July. However, you can always try looking at lodging alternatives and other options such as the lodging trip we had at penticton a few years ago.

Karen says...

- p&c camping trip '06 -

i'm def. interested though i would only be able to go if it's moved to include a weekend so that i don't need to take so many days off work. how much more expensive is it on weekends? i'd be willing to organize IF i have a co-chair. (i'm not all that ambitious. =P)

Christopher says...

Preliminary Summer Trip Planning

I'm looking to get some general feedback on who would be interested in taking a 'camping' trip on July 4-7. I say camping in quotes, because it would be in:

Early loggers, miners and pioneers in the Hood Canal region traditionally used platform tents. The modern platform tents at Dosewallips State Park (in Brinnon) measure 14'x16'. Made of white canvas, they are light inside, even on cloudy days.
Specifications: Each tent is outfitted with a bunk that sleeps three, a futon for two, lights, table and heater. Outside are deck, picnic table, fire grill and utility hookup, with bathrooms and showers nearby.*
Capacity: Five people per tent.
Rental fee: $40 per night for up to 5 people.

It would be at this location:
http://www.parks.wa.gov/parkpage.asp?selectedpark=Dosewallips&pageno=1

I would like to know if you are interested in going, if you can drive, or if you want to organize this (I'm really busy right about now and since I'll be gone for almost all of June it would be nice if someone else could take over planning).

Pat says...

mystery solved!

now we can ALL sleep better at night.

and you DIDNT know bengay was a lotion!? omg... so you were just copying us all along?

Hahah.

vivienne says...

Gordon: YAAAAAAY congrats on your first year. When are you back and when are we having dinner with you?

AND...

OHHHHH I FINALLY figured out what d. f. g. means (with help from Carrie). :P It's SUCH a guy's phrase. How would I know what it stood for? Blah...

AND...

Turns out Bengay is a REAL medicated lotion. I never knew. :p

Gordon says...

I am DONE FIRST YEAR!!!

Man, my last exam was brutal though...

Anyway...I will challenge anyone to BOP-IT! Since that's all I did while i was stuck in the hospital for 4 months in high school!

vivienne says...

Just wanna shout a big THANKS to everyone who came out yesterday ALL the way to Gastown (Ben: GUUUUM FAR!) for dinner and thanks for the pretty yet practical gift ^-^ And Cindy, you picked out a really good style and I LOVE it. ....and Pat....I will PRACTICE HARD on the BOP-IT and challenge you during the summer camping trip!

Hahah...the P&C heading surprisingly makes me really happy even though it SO indicates that I'm old. LOL but I'll take Joyce's advice...you're so RIGHT 20-29 box. Mwahahahah....sad day when I'm turning 30. ~-~ in another 7 years....ahhhhh....

Next up would be Joanne, but she's only turning 22. Blah to you younger people.

Joanne: Thanks! :) Technically, my brother turns 14 in July. ;) So, no, not 10 years older all the time.

Joanne says...

Best wishes for your 23rd year, ViviENNE!!!

But technically, aren't you always 10 years older than your brother?

vivienne says...

Awwww...thanks guys. :D

This is what my brother told me today: "Today, you're officially 10 years older than me. You're OLD!" Nothing like a sibling to rub it in, eh? :p

vivienne says...

Haha...no one's gonna suggest a place evidently. Let's just go with your favorite, Karen...how about i-cafe? It's nice and cheap, has a nice variety...hope they do reservations and won't involve fights with the maitre d' this time. LOL

Karen says...

Karen: Thanks so much for organizing this! It's definitely hard trying to get together the P&C group.. :P

Likai: You found James? Yay! I haven't talked to him since finals, so it'll be REALLY great if he could come. ^_^

Gordon: ....but but but I'll DEFINITELY come out to have dinner with you when you come back 'cause I promised!!! Don't be mad! >.<;;;

Everyone else: Thank you for making time to come out to celebrate my birthday! ^-^ I'm really excited and looking forward to turning old (oh, wait, I would've turned older already by Sunday ~-~) with you guys. Hopefully I won't get birthday beats. . .

Leo: . . . I'll meet up with you earlier, how about that? Tell me when you start work and I'll meet you somewhere beforehand. ^__^ That way I won't miss blessings from my big brother! LOL

Gordon says...

EVILNESS (in replacement of a word I'd rather use)! You guys can't wait THREE DAYS for me to get back for the dinner?? geez... you suck!

- viviENNE's 23rd birthday -

awww, li-kai, you totally stole my thunder and beat me to the post! hehehe.

yeah, i actually just sent out an email asking you guys for suggestions. i'm in charge of hosting duties this time around. =) so we have decided on a date, sunday the 7th, to accommodate gary who will be back by then.

so we still need:
1) place to eat (viv doesn't mind so you guys can suggest.)
2) place to hangout after (frog and firkin or something else?...viv?)

and yeah, viv, if you want, why don't you extend my email invite out to james (i THINK i remember him, asian dude about viv's height that we always bump into in chem lounge?) and other friends? and likai could you also let starphen know? i lost their email address. i didn't forget them! and yeah, if you get ppl to come, could you guys let me know final count of ppl via email/calling me? thankya.

so yes place to eat. please brainstorm guys and let me/viv know! =P

also, this invite is also extended out to all out-of-town folks. though you won't be able to make it, you're still invited and will be sorely missed. =)

okay that's all folks. email/call me if there are questions, comments, queries, concerns. 604 328 DDMM. (DDMM = my birthday, which you should all know off the top of you heads!! hehehe. if not, you can always check the side bar for a limited time...=P)

Hey people,

I've heard that there's something going on this coming Sunday, the 7th, with regards to Viv's birthday celebration. In turns out that I'm having a drink with a friend I haven't hung out with for a while--James Leung--who also happens to be Viv's friend from highschool. Originally, James and I are hoping to get some people together at Frog and Firkens on Broadway (across from Kinkos)at 8pm. I propose that we combine the two events. Now food's not exactly great there, considering that it's a bar, but the atmosphere is ok. If the majority of you want to eat at a different location, that's cool too....but how about after dinner, we go there to celebrate and chill as a large group? Ideas/Suggestions?

Sushi at 7:30PM tonight at Granville and 14th Shabusen.

Thanks to all those that replied and to all those who are too lazy to even talk to me, thanks for making my life a lot more hectic than it should be. Heh just kidding :P

If you have not told me if you are going and are gonna show up anyways please show up ON TIME so we do not have to keep asking the waiter to expand our table.

See you tonite......

vivienne says...

Hey, who's going to the Sushi thing tonight? I got the impression we're meeting at Shabusen at six?......

I'm thinking of having another dinner on Friday perhaps to celebrate my b-day? ^^;; I dunno...celebrating it on five days in advance seems kinda strange....

Joanne says...

Gordon: Of course I'll be there to pick you up! Eddie has stopped moping about not being able to spend my birthday with me and decided that he will celebrate it with me on the 13th. At least I think that's what's happening. I'm really not too sure. That boy is driving me nuts. Ok, I'm just gonna go back to the original plan of planning whatever I want without any regard for anybody. No wonder I've elected to stay single for so long.

hahaha... less than 12 hrs in Denver, Joanne can go from "eh?" to "y'all"
I still have a hard time trying to say "zee" instead of "zed." Soda instead of pop .. that i'm getting used to. oh.. my roommate's from wisconsin, and she told me people say "pop" there too. hehehe

Gordon says...

Speaking of which, HOLY CRAP, the OILERS MADE IT! It's going crazy right now here in Edmonton and I think it'll go crazy ALL night long till past midnight (perfect for studying for my final tomorrow). But man, that was an awesome game. So the Oilers advance, having to make it to the 2nd round finally after 8 yrs of missing it and did it by beating the "best" team of the NHL. Fairy tale indeed. haha...the funny thing is, i wonder if the people in Detroit even care...

Joanne: ARE YOU STILL MEETING ME AT THE AIRPORT???

Joanne says...

It's over! And chances are...most of you guys will continue on with more school...so is it ever really over????

Guess who went to a Playoff game in Denver? OH YEAH. For $50!!! Yes, only in America would playoff hockey tickets still be available 3 hours before a game. In fact, ESPN wasn't even covering the playoffs when you turn it on! They were talking about the football draft! But sigh...I got to see Theodore! Almost as good as seeing Cloutier! But stupid Rob from Ottawa let it leak out to some Avalanche fans that I'm from Vancouver - I was so afraid I would get beat up! Haha, the fans were like "Oh..you're from Vancouver eh? Well, I'm sure you're a nice girl...." and looks uncomfortable, haha. Cool, I was in the city for less than 12 hours and I've already become a tough girl, hehe. They have pom poms instead of towels. I just don't get that.

With Chris having his exams soon and Karen potentially having to spend time with her family, you guys don't have to celebrate my birthday with me... There might be a slight chance that my dad remembers it's my birthday that day... And Eddie did say he wants to spend my birthday with me... Well, let me know!

Bah, I get no freaking vacation! I'll be in Toronto in June. And I'll be in Toronto in July. And I'll spend August in Toronto. I may head off to Montreal for a weekend but that's it!!! Stop making me jealous y'all!!!!

Gary says...

Hey guys,

Sorry I haven't been completely on the ball with the sushi thing......busy day today. :(

So since it seemed like ppl were up for it, I would suggest Shabusen on Granville and 13th (I know, same old place) but its transport friendly, decent price (I paid $25 including everything taxes and tip), they DON'T limit your sashimi and I think the food is not bad, so its a safe choice :D.

If ppl want to try something new there are other places like Tomokazu and Ebei, but I know that Tomokazu limits your sashimi and Ebei is kinda pricey (unless you go for late night) but then you don't get sashimi.

Is Tuesday night, say 6:30PM, good for ppl?

Please respond ASAP! Of course, everyone is invited but I would like to know how many ppl there are.

NeverGonnaGrowUp says...

Gary: is tuesday night all-you-can-eat sushi outing still on?

Vancouverites in general: I have Thur - Sunday off. Sunday is the spirit game so I gotta go, and Saturday I'm running an ultimate practice for my newbie team. Any chance we can do something Thur - Fri?!?!?!
